bdf2sfd
- Ebuilds: 2, Stable: 1.1.9, Testing: 1.2.0 Description:
bdf2sfd is a BDF to SFD converter, allowing to vectorize bitmap fonts. It
works by converting each pixel of a glyph to a polygon, which produces
large and unoptimized SFD files that should be post-processed using
FontForge. There are several reasons why it might be desirable to convert
bitmap fonts to OpenType or TrueType versions. This allow for example to
use them as Web fonts, or simply to keep using them in some terminal
emulators, since Pango 1.44 dropped support for bitmap fonts. It was
originally created to generate OpenType versions of Spleen, and is released
in the hope it can be useful to convert other fonts as well.

Spent some time looking around the net to find a font that mimics
DEC VT220 terminal glyph appearance. There is none. There are some
old bitmapped fonts from X11 and probably early MacOS distributions

is lacking and nostalgic value is absent. What I wanted was a font that

inconsolata_dz
- Ebuilds: 1, Testing: 20201205 Description:
A new Inconsolata variant.
Update Dec 5, 2020: Some versions of Emacs 24+ are seeing issues with fonts that use hyphens in the name, eg, Inconsolata-dz. I’ve updated the files list below to include a version of Inconsolata-dz named Inconsolata_dz, with underscores.
I love the font Inconsolata. At bigger sizes and higher resolutions, it looks incredibly smooth and clear, and avoids the messy sort of feeling that Monaco gains as text density increases.
One thing that bothered me about Inconsolata, however, was the fact that its single and double quotes were slightly slanted or curly. It especially bothered me when using single quotes and commas, as the two looked visually similar, and my eye kept jumping levels.
As such, I made my own modification using the Font Forge source script, and named it: Inconsolata-dz
It was the first time I did anything with Font Forge, so advance apologies for any mistakes.

- Ebuilds: 2, Stable: 2.201, Testing: 2.201 Description:
The Ethiopic script is used for writing many of the languages of
Ethiopia and Eritrea. Ethiopic (U+1200..U+137F) was added to
Unicode 3.0. Ethiopic Supplement (U+1380..U+139F) and Ethiopic
Extended (U+2D80..U+2DDF) were added to Unicode 4.1. Abyssinica
SIL supports all Ethiopic characters which are in Unicode
including the Unicode 4.1 extensions. Some languages of Ethiopia
are not yet able to be fully represented in Unicode and, where
necessary, we have included non-Unicode characters in the Private
Use Area (see Private-use (PUA) characters supported by Abyssinica
SIL).
Abyssinica SIL is based on Ethiopic calligraphic traditions. This
release is a regular typeface, with no bold or italic version
available or planned.

sil-arabicfonts
- Ebuilds: 1, Stable: 3.000, Testing: 3.000 Description:
Scheherazade and Lateef are extended Arabic script fonts designed
by SIL International for modern Unicode-based systems using either
OpenType or AAT (Apple Advanced Typography) for complex-script
rendering. They support virtually all of the Unicode 4.1 Arabic
character repertoire (excluding the Arabic Presentation Forms
blocks, which are not recommended for normal use). Each typeface
is currently available in Regular weight only.
Scheherazade, named after the heroine of the classic Arabian
Nights tale, is designed in a similar style to traditional
typefaces such as Monotype Naskh, extended to cover the full
Unicode Arabic repertoire.
Lateef is named after Shah Abdul Lateef Bhitai, the famous Sindhi
mystic and poet. It is intended to be an appropriate style for use
in Sindhi and other languages of the South Asian region.

sil-charis
- Ebuilds: 1, Stable: 6.200, Testing: 6.200 Description:
Welcome to the Charis SIL font package. Charis is similar to
Bitstream Charter, one of the first fonts designed specifically
for laser printers. It is highly readable and holds up well in
less-than-ideal reproduction environments. It also has a full set
of styles - regular, italic, bold, bold italic - and so is more
useful in general publishing than Doulos SIL. Charis is a serif,
proportionally-spaced font optimized for readability in long
printed documents.
Homepage:https://software.sil.org/charis/ License: OFL-1.1
sil-doulos
- Ebuilds: 1, Stable: 6.200, Testing: 6.200 Description:
Welcome to the Doulos SIL font package. The goal for this product
was to provide a single Unicode-based font family that would
contain a comprehensive inventory of glyphs needed for almost any
Roman- or Cyrillic-based writing system, whether used for phonetic
or orthographic needs. In addition, there is provision for other
characters and symbols useful to linguists. This font makes use of
state-of-the-art font technologies to support complex typographic
issues, such as the need to position arbitrary combinations of
base glyphs and diacritics optimally.
Doulos is very similar to Times/Times New Roman, but only has a
single face - regular. It is intended for use alongside other
Times-like fonts where a range of styles (italic, bold) are not
needed.

3.1.

Unicode 3.1 for Latin-1, Greek (excluding Coptic), Macintosh
Character Set (US Roman), and 850WE/Latin-1 and are supplied in
Regular and Bold weights.

sil-gentium
- Ebuilds: 1, Stable: 6.200, Testing: 6.200 Description:
Gentium is a typeface family designed to enable the diverse ethnic
groups around the world who use the Latin, Cyrillic and Greek
scripts to produce readable, high-quality publications. It supports
a wide range of Latin- and Cyrillic-based alphabets.
The design is intended to be highly readable, reasonably compact,
and visually attractive. The additional ‘extended’ Latin letters are
designed to naturally harmonize with the traditional 26 ones.
Diacritics are treated with careful thought and attention to their
use. Gentium also supports both polytonic and monotonic Greek.
Gentium Plus now includes more extended Latin glyphs (Unicode 5.1),
archaic Greek symbols, and full extended Cyrillic script support.
