Package Information

Description:
This package installs just the data files, not the engine, for Epic's popular first-person shooter game, Unreal, as well as its expansion pack Return to Na Pali, released together as Unreal Gold. Epic privately shared the engine sources with the community OldUnreal team, who now maintain it and publish modern builds. Epic also, somewhat informally, gave permission for OldUnreal to host a CD ISO of the game for the community to download and play for free. GamingOnLinux shared this news and confirmed it with Epic here: https://www.gamingonlinux.com/2024/11/classic-unreal-tournament-and-unreal-now-easier-to-download-free-thanks-to-oldunreal/ "We can confirm that Unreal 1 and Unreal Tournament are available on archive.org and people are free to independently link to and play these versions." Epic's web page for Unreal Tournament links to OldUnreal for downloads: https://www.epicgames.com/unrealtournament By default, this package will fetch that ISO from OldUnreal. If you do not want to use OldUnreal's ISO, you also have the option to install from CD, DVD, or GOG instead. Note that the game can no longer be purchased from GOG or anywhere else. Epic even removed it from their own store. Also note that the GOG edition lacks the French, German, Italian, and Spanish sound files.
