Description:

As of 2026-04-28 demeter uses sci-physics/xraylarch (Larch) as its analysis backend. Upstream ifeffit (github.com/newville/ifeffit) was deleted; demeter has first-class Larch support via lib/Larch.pm, which drives a larch_server XML-RPC daemon (shipped by xraylarch). Set DEMETER_BACKEND=larch in the runtime environment to pick the Larch path; some peripheral features still defer to Ifeffit per upstream's todo.org "Larch v. Ifeffit problem areas", but the common Athena/Artemis analysis path works.
